Advent is the season in the church calendar that runs from the Sunday after Thanksgiving to Christmas Day. Advent literally means “coming” - and it is in this time period that we remember Jesus’ first coming as a baby, and anticipate his second coming as the victorious resurrected king.
This year, we are using some of the ideas summarized in a booklet produced by Vineyard USA, titled “The Gift Of Risk.” God took big risks in sending Jesus to this earth as a baby. Similarly, throughout the story of Christmas, we see God inviting various Biblical characters to take significant risks in response to his initiative. As we explore their stories, we want to take note of ways God is inviting us into deeper risk-taking in our own lives, where we learn how to to trust and obey his leading.
Along with our weekend messages, we have a study guide and several small groups meeting to help us focus on how our loving God sent his son to us.
