Experiencing Jesus in Prison

“On June 12, 2018, I was in jail and it was one of the worst days I’ve had so far. At this time, when I was at my lowest point, feeling like I didn’t even want to live anymore, I was given a Bible. I had cried and cried until I had no tears left. With nothing else to do, I looked at the Bible I was given that day. I can’t explain it, but something made me open it and start reading. I flipped through a few times before I found myself reading about Jesus’ crucifixion in the book of Matthew. The more I read, the more calm I began to feel. When I came to the part where Jesus calls out, my God, My God, why have you abandoned me, something inside of me hurt. I can’t explain what I felt, but I know it was deep. It took me by surprise. I read this part again and again feeling the same hurt each time. I still can’t explain it. Since then I’ve read my Bible more every night. I’ve started to pray regularly for others as well as for myself. I’ve learned to see the good in my situation.”
